Awan Raya

2021

Submission for PAM + MRT Corp RTS Link Station Bukit Chagar Johor Facade Design Ideas Competition
Collaborators: Qhawarizmi Architect, JFXA

Notes:
The Water Cycle is a natural system by which moisture keeps on circulating from the sea to the atmosphere by passing through multiple stages water cycle: Evaporation, Condensation, and precipitation.

Awan Raya is a dream landscape about the Water Cycle. As a living facade for the RTS Link Station Johor Bahru - Singapore, Awan Raya shows the continuous movement of water at different times as the water formations occur such as fog, clouds forming, and rainbows through Evaporation, Condensation, and Precipitation.

This project is a collective experience that aims to remind us of the power of living with water and to celebrate the water diplomacy of our two nations, Singapore and Malaysia.

As the day-to-day commute experience becomes ever more sedentary and people’s experiences with space are minimized, the richness of spatial experiences is compromised. A design methodology using a fictional framework is proposed to help rethink conventional ways of restructuring the spatial and visual elements with a wider frame of spatial design and event technology, including the relationship between human interaction and the environment.

Water contamination/ pollution are issues that demand attention, understanding, and support from society. We see ‘Water Appreciation’ as a crucial subject that should be shared and addressed among ourselves on daily basis, to help raise awareness and advocate to the public about the importance of water, and how invaluable water is to us.

This project is proposed as a living facade for the RTS Link Station Johor Bahru - Singapore that aims to remind us of the power of living with water and to celebrate the water diplomacy of our two nations, Singapore and Malaysia.
