Seen and Unseen.
2015
In order for us to strengthen our diverse culture in the future while maintaining the authenticity and affordability of our local dishes, we must stress the value of constantly innovating the way traditional hawker stalls function by drawing inspiration from a variety of influences. For example, taking cues from cutting-edge Japanese food technology to the whims of social media and digital platforms.
This project proposes an activation of incorporating a production house and a cooking club set along Jalan Sultan in Chinatown, Kuala Lumpur. ‘Seen & Unseen’ Production House should serve as an enticing space that embraces the daily activities in the vicinity.
The layered nature of the reflective surfaces creates a screen of varying levels of transparency and opacity, distorting, concealing, and hiding the nature of the space it contains.
This aims to formulate a new material expression for the spaces of the production house. One that perfectly captures the intricacy of how the media influences human behavior, activities, thoughts, and cognition.
