Exploring Body Spatiality in VR
2018
Project by: Hui Sim Chan, Wimonwan Wichaikhamjorn, Ahrian Taylor, Patsaraporn LiewatanakornUnfold explored how induced emotions can be expressed through simple movements that are associated with our bodily expressions of each emotion and/or its perception based on the labanotation representation conceived by Rudolf Laban in the early to mid-twentieth century.
Operated as personalized VR experiences for participants, this project allows private explorations of participants’ bodily movements and expressions on a mediated ground. This was a VR experience and design research in that we looked into the relationship between body movements, emotions, and feelings.
How do we determine which specific bodily movements are associated with which emotions?
How can we further determine and personalize the most efficient movements for our everyday performance to enhance positive emotions and/ or reduce negative emotions?

The Interaction between Color and Emotions
This project took place during a two-week workshop at the Interactive Architecture Lab to investigate the use of virtual tools in well-being practices. Unfold further suggests how this can help regulate people’s emotions through their motor behavior, by incorporating them into their daily movements such as movements that enhance positive emotions or start reducing movements that include elements that may trigger negative emotions.
